taxes and VAT

Tax and VAT, different types of tax

If you run a business, you must pay taxes and VAT to the Swedish Tax Agency;

The tax is a percentage of a company’s profits that is paid to the government and used to fund public spending. VAT is a tax on the sale of goods and services that is added to the price to the customer;

The company collects the VAT and pays it to the Swedish Tax Agency.

Consult a tax adviser

You can find detailed information about VAT on the Swedish Tax Agency’s website, skatteverket.se, where you can read or download guides, court cases, brochures, forms and other documents.

Consult a tax advisor for more details on the criteria and requirements applicable to your particular situation.

register for VAT

If you run a business and sell services, you must normally register for VAT with the Swedish Tax Agency. You must charge VAT on your services, file VAT returns and pay the VAT on your sales to the Swedish Tax Agency. You can reclaim the VAT you have paid on business-related goods or services.

Once you have registered, you will receive a registration statement with your VAT number. The registration statement will also tell you how often you have to declare VAT.

The basis for your rental income and VAT can be found in your accounting documents, which are emailed to you each month.

we are not tax consultants

As an operator, it is important that you are aware of the tax and VAT rules that apply to your business.

We cannot advise on taxes and VAT as we are neither an accountancy firm nor a tax consultant;

In addition, tax and VAT rules may vary depending on the type of company and the accrual method.

We recommend that you contact an accountancy firm or tax consultant to help you navigate these issues.

If you do your own bookkeeping, there are several programmes to use, such as Bokio and Fortnox.
