FIRST GENERATION LOCK

KAYAKOMAT’s smart locks are a crucial part of our 24/7 self-service model. Our smart locks allow customers to easily book and pick up kayaks and SUP boards without needing to interact with an operator or staff.

Our smart locks are equipped with the latest technology to ensure the safety of both the equipment and the customer. Each lock has a unique code that can only be accessed by the person who made the booking.

We take pride in offering our customers this convenience while maintaining the highest level of security and protection for the equipment.

Our locks are battery-powered and use: CR2 Lithium battery, 3 volts.

Troubleshooting if a lock is malfunctioning

The lock emits error signals

It is very difficult to determine what might be wrong. You need to try to understand what kind of error signals the lock is giving. Once you know that, you can follow Igloo’s own guide to understand what different error signals mean.

  • If the padlock emits 4 short beeps and flashes red twice, it means that an incorrect PIN code was used to unlock the padlock.
  • If the padlock emits 3 sets of 4 short beeps and flashes red twice, it means that a deleted PIN code was used to unlock the padlock.
  • If the padlock emits a siren sound for 30-90 seconds, it means that the padlock’s security lock mechanism has been activated (due to 5 consecutive incorrect PIN codes); wait until the siren stops and try unlocking the padlock again with the correct PIN code.
  • If the padlock emits 3 fast descending tones and shows a red breathing LED light, it means that the battery is running low; replace the battery as soon as possible.
  • If the padlock emits 6 sets of 4 short beeps, this is a possible obstruction alarm. If you tried to access the battery cover without unlocking the padlock first, this might be the reason. See the video “Incorrect Assembly” further down the page for instructions on how to fix this issue.

If the issue is still unclear, we may need to send a new lock. In that case, please contact support via our form.

One/several of my locks have low battery

If the battery is completely dead, you need to purchase a 9V battery to bring it back to life. In most cases, you need to hold the 9V battery against the lock while unlocking it to prevent it from shutting down again. This will allow you to access the battery compartment and replace the battery. See the video below for instructions.

Problem with bluetooth
  1. Double-check that Bluetooth is turned on.
  2. Make sure you are trying to unlock the correct lock.
  3. Has IglooHome been granted permission to use Bluetooth in your phone’s settings?
  4. Refresh the app/log out and in again.
  5. Reinstall the app.
  6. Make a test booking and see if it works to unlock with a code. You can go to Admin and adjust the booking to the correct slot.
  7. Contact Support

The lock is flashing blue or battery drains quickly

Signs that a lock has gotten water or moisture inside:

  • If your lock is constantly flashing blue.
  • The battery drains unusually fast and is depleted within a few weeks after replacement.

If this is the case, you will most likely need to replace the lock. Contact support  and provide the lock number and the reason.

Checklist for locks before the season starts

When the season begins, there are a few things you should check regarding the locks. If you cannot access the Igloo app or see your locks, make sure you have accepted the email invitation. If you still have issues, contact customer support.

1 Change lock/charge battery

Ensure that your batteries/locks are properly charged.

(CR2 lithium battery, 3 volts)

Batteries can be purchased in regular stores. It is important that you use one of the following brands: Energizer, Duracell, or Panasonic.

How to Change the Battery:

  1. Unlock the lock.
  2. Open the battery compartment and replace the battery.
  3. Close the battery compartment.

⚠️ Important Notes:

  • Make sure the battery compartment is in the locked position before closing the shackle, otherwise, an error may occur. There is a video below showing how to fix “Incorrect Assembly.”
  • Every time you access the battery compartment, the lock MUST be unlocked.

2 Sync the lock

This needs to be done at least once a month in order to work correctly. Sync each lock in the Igloo app.

3 Update Firmware in the Igloo app

You can clearly see this with a red banner on the lock’s page in the app.

If the app notifies you that it’s time to perform a “Firmware update,” it is important to complete this.

A firmware update is when a new version of the software/code running on the locks is installed. It may include new features, bug fixes, security updates, and more.

If you haven’t completed the update, it may, for example, appear as if the lock’s battery level is low. However, after updating, the battery level may return to normal.

How to change the battery in your lock

This video shows how to replace the battery in your lock. If the lock’s battery is completely drained and cannot be unlocked, you can jumpstart it with a 9V battery to bring it back to life. Typically, you’ll need to hold the 9V battery against the lock while unlocking it to prevent it from turning off. This way, you can access the battery compartment to replace the battery.

Below is a YouTube clip on how to start the lock with a 9V battery.

Please note that you need to hold the 9V battery against the lock for about 15 seconds before it charges enough to open if you’re jumpstarting the lock.
